Abstract
Synergic antimicrobial activities of chitosan and Ivy extracts were investigated against several antibiotic and non-antibiotic
resistant microorganisms. The antimicrobial substance from Parthenocissus tricuspidata (tentatively named as Ivy) were extracted using ethanol. Especially synergic antimicrobial activity of chitosan with Ivy extracts was exhibited toward E. coli ATCC8739 and Salmonella typhimurium. Although further study about synergic antimicrobial mechanism of chitosan and Ivy extracts is need to get better understanding, these are allowable to use as antimicrobial agents in food reservation, hygienic conditioner, and an additive in feed for poultry.
